I will be attending Arizona State University this upcoming fall to pursue my Doctorate of Audiology. I chose Arizona State University because they are ranked in the Top 10 audiology programs in the country and, of course, for the warmth. ASU offers hands on experience with pediatric hearing aid and cochlear implant patients, which is the career path I hope to pursue. I have worn a hearing aid myself since the 6th grade, and my audiologist had a monumental impact on my confidence with my disability. My audiologist inspired me to become one and have a positive impact on others with the same disability.
Edinboro University has helped me solidify my career choice by having professors that give me opportunities for growth outside the classroom. I have been lucky enough to attend two speech-language and hearing conventions as well as one cochlear implant conference thanks to my professors reaching out to me. I have done research on story retelling skills in children with hearing loss with one of my professors. My favorite way that Edinboro has influenced my career path is with KILT (Kids Intensive Language Training). It is a bilingual preschool for children with hearing loss using both spoken English and American Sign Language. This experience lead me to want to work in early intervention.
