Edinboro’s Educational Psychology among top national programs

Edinboro University graduate students enrolled in the Educational Psychology program acquire a broad understanding of human development, psychology theories and educational research through online coursework.

This spring, Online Psychology Degrees granted Edinboro the No. 22 position in the national Top 30 Master’s Degrees in Educational Psychology Online 2018 rankings. Recognizing Edinboro’s focus on theory and practice, Online Psychology Degrees credited Edinboro for delivering a curriculum that provides an extensive understanding of the psychological development of children.

“We are proud of our ranking, which reflects our commitment to educating graduate students and the importance of Educational Psychology,” said Dr. Edward Snyder, head of the Educational Psychology program in Edinboro’s School of Graduate Studies and Research.

The 30-credit program delivers practical and theoretical courses, with no field experiences required. With many students employed in full-time careers during the coursework, the program can be completed entirely online and part-time over two years.

Edinboro’s online graduate program earned a ranking among nationally recognized universities such as West Virginia University, University of Alabama, University of Georgia, Florida State University and Rutgers University – which were among the Top 10.

The Educational Psychology program at Edinboro University recognizes the pressures of educational accountability and offers courses to assist teachers with understanding how to easily demonstrate student growth. The program provides educators with an understanding of procedures for progress monitoring and using research supported practices without losing focus on the importance of having a broad understanding of the psychological development of all children.

Online Psychology Degrees (OPD) analyzes data from institutions with online master’s degree programs in psychology across the U.S., including those that offer degrees in educational psychology, learning and cognition, and school psychology.

After collecting the data, analysts rank qualifying statistics in five categories: affordability, accessibility, flexibility, experiential learning and relevance of coursework.

OPD develops an affordability metric based on data from College Navigator, a government-run education database, and calculates the school’s average annual price based on resident and non-resident tuition rates and fees.

Graduate program tuition and fees at Edinboro for 2018 are $606.05 per credit hour for an online Pennsylvania student and $707.35 per credit hour for a non-Pennsylvania resident or international online student.

In accessibility, OPB considers the percentage of the program’s courses that are available online.

OPD awards higher rankings to programs that are flexible in tailoring curriculum to suit individual student goals.

Experiential learning refers to any opportunities that the program provides for hands-on education. This could come in the form of a research project, thesis report, portfolio or practicum/internship experience.

Finally, OPD assesses coursework by measuring the percentage of the program’s curriculum that focuses specifically on school psychology.
