Edinboro seeks business-savvy high school students for Summer Business Academy

Drawing upon the success of the past five years, Edinboro University will again invite high school students from Pennsylvania and across the nation to participate in the Xavier and Tina Williams Summer Youth Business Academy.

Hosted by EU’s School of Business, the Academy will be held June 10-14 on Edinboro’s main campus and is open to all students entering grades 9, 10 or 11. Through the generosity of the Academy’s namesake benefactors, AT&T executive and EU alumnus Xavier Williams, ’89, and his wife, Tina, scholarships will be available for each participant.

Academy students gain business acumen through immersive seminars focused on team building, business strategy, management, finance, marketing, problem-solving and financial planning for college. Throughout the program, students will have access to faculty from EU’s School of Business as well as local business leaders.

“This program has served more than one hundred students from over fifty schools in the last five years,” said Dr. Scott Miller, dean of EU’s School of Business. “Students learn about business networking and present business plans at the end of the week to a panel of judges from the business community.”

During the camp, students will work in groups to create a product or service that solves a common problem in society. Each team will then devise a plan for building and marketing their product or service. At the conclusion of the Academy, a panel of judges comprised of EU faculty and regional business leaders will select a winner.

Students are required to stay in Edinboro University's campus residence halls during the Academy. The cost of this residency is included in the student's scholarship.

To be considered for the Xavier and Tina Williams Summer Youth Business Academy, students must complete an application form by Monday, March 19. A teacher or guidance counselor must also nominate the student. The Student Application Form and link to the teacher/counselor recommendation can be found at www.edinboro.edu/businessacademy.

One of the leading undergraduate business and economics institutes in the region, Edinboro University’s School of Business is invested in providing a high-quality educational experience guided by knowledgeable faculty.
