Fisher named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs

In a message to the campus community, Interim President Michael J. Hannan today announced the appointment of Dr. Jim Fisher as Edinboro University's interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. He will officially begin his new role at the conclusion of the spring semester.

Dr. Fisher has been a professor of politics and legal studies at Edinboro for 18 years. A proud Edinboro alumnus, he graduated in 1993 with bachelor's degrees in political science and English. He then earned a law degree from the College of William and Mary and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Fisher has taught a broad range of courses in law, American politics, political theory, and criminal justice, and has been nominated three times for Edinboro's Educator of the Year award. During his time at Edinboro, Dr. Fisher has organized and participated in more than 40 public forums, given more than two dozen invited lectures, written several op-ed pieces, and provided political analysis to local media organizations.

He has a wide range of administrative experiences, which include serving for six years as chairperson of Edinboro's Department of Political Science and Criminal Justice. He has been a member of the executive council of APSCUF and served on the board of directors of the local and state chapters of the American Civil Liberties Union. He also trained as a community organizer. Most recently, Dr. Fisher served as chair of the board of trustees of Villa Maria Elementary School in Millcreek Township.

"I look forward to working with Dr. Fisher, the University leadership team and the entire campus community to further advance Edinboro in the weeks and months ahead. I am quite confident that together we will make tremendous strides." – Michael J. Hannan, interim president
