          Regional high school students headed to Edinboro University for scholastic competition

          More than 100 high school students will visit Edinboro University Friday and Saturday for the 2020 Pennsylvania Academic Decathlon Western Regional Competition.

          Following months of preparation, teams will face off in a series of 10 scholastic events, which include an interview, essay writing, speeches, exams and the ever-popular Super Quiz. Students will be tested in art, economics, literature, mathematics, music, science and social science surrounding this year’s theme, “In Sickness and in Health.”

          “Edinboro University is honored to be hosting the competition again this year,” said Dr. Melissa Gibson, a faculty member in Edinboro’s Communication, Journalism, and Media Department who helped organize the event. “Our faculty, staff, students and alumni have volunteered to be judges, and the campus is ready to host these talented young people.”

          The 2-day competition will kick off Friday at 11 a.m. and conclude with the awards ceremony on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. in Louis C. Cole Auditorium – Memorial Hall.

          Participating schools include Corry Area High School, McDowell Senior High School, Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy, Northwestern Senior High School, Meadville Area Senior High School, Clarion-Limestone High School, Cochranton Junior Senior High School, Commodore Perry High School, Karns City Area Junior Senior High School, Moniteau Junior-Senior High School, North Clarion High School, Reynolds Junior-Senior High School and Seneca Valley Senior High School.

          The top finishers will go on to compete in the state championship in Souderton, Pa. March 13-14.
