Edinboro University’s Beehive earns six Niagara Awards for public relations

Edinboro University’s Center for Branding and Strategic Communication took home six awards at the 2019 Niagara Awards competition sponsored by the Public Relations Society of America’s Northwest Pennsylvania Chapter.

The annual awards ceremony, held at the Brewerie at Union Station on Nov. 21, recognized public relations practitioners who have successfully addressed contemporary issues with exemplary professional skill, creativity and resourcefulness.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from our professional peers,” said Dr. Tony Peyronel, executive director of entrepreneurial development at Edinboro University. “The results are even more impressive because our student projects were judged against exactly the same high professional standards as all other competitors.”

Edinboro’s Beehive won gold awards in the Multicultural Public Relations category for its work with AmeriMasala and in the Advertising/Marketing Category for its support of ART100. AmeriMasala is a multicultural festival held each summer in Erie, and ART100 is Edinboro University’s celebration of 100 years of offering programs in art and art education.

Silver awards were garnered in the Integrated Communications category for work promoting Conneaut Lake Park, in the Advertising/Marketing category for the Film Society of NWPA’s Film Grain campaign, in the Video News Release/Audio Visual Program for a virtual tour produced for the Presque Isle Lighthouse, and in the Special Events and Observances category for a Celtic Holiday Concert, a joint entry with the university’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter.

Edinboro’s Center for Branding and Strategic Communication is part of the NWPA Innovation Beehive Network, a collaboration between Edinboro, Gannon and Mercyhurst universities, Penn State Behrend and the Erie County Public Library aimed at fostering economic development in Northwest Pennsylvania.

The center offers services in public relations and marketing communication, including graphic and interactive design, social media management, and digital media production.
