Applied Technology - Electric Utilities Technology Porreco College Associate of Applied Science Program Number: 1261 Department: Physics and Technology
The Associate of Applied Science in Electric Utility Technology program emphasizes courses that prepare graduates of the program for careers as a lineworker or substation electrician in the electric utility industry. The program is a unique in that it combines classroom learning with hands-on training. Graduates gain the required knowledge in the areas of mathematics, physics, communications, business, and electronics in order to immediately pursue a career as an electric utilities lineman. The A.A.S. program provides an opportunity for those with related training to complete a relevant associate degree. The A.A.S. program will be attractive to students currently pursuing Power Systems Institute (PSI) training provided by FirstEnergy. Graduates of the Associate of Applied Science in Electric Utilities Technology will be able to: • Satisfactorily complete the Power Systems Institute (PSI) and related field experience • To become proficient in analytical and quantitative computations appropriate to the occupational environment • Develop communications skills appropriate to a technical setting • Assess and operationalize a management and business plan in a technological environment, and handle personal finances responsibly
The Associate of Science in Business Administration is a strong program designed to provide aspiring business students with an understanding of core business concepts and uniquely prepare them to advance in business careers. This two-year program provides students with fundamental knowledge in economics, accounting, finance, management and marketing, as well as a strong theoretical foundation, complemented by a solid practical understanding of business.
The goal of the Associate of Arts in Human Services program is to educate, in two years, a generalist professional worker who can move into a wide range of mental health, human services, social services, community action, and social justice careers. Program faculty not only teach about the ideals of the human services profession, but also model and practice them as they engage with students both in and out of the classroom and in professional settings across our communities.
The Associate of Arts (AA) Degree in Liberal Studies is designed to meet the needs of students seeking a two-year degree program of higher education and accompanying credentials. It aims to educate students to communicate effectively, to think both creatively and critically, and to work across disciplines. It allows the student to have choices and flexibility in designing a concentration that meets his or her individual career goals and objectives. Students can organize a program of study that is both personally interesting and professionally relevant. Equipped with these highly transferrable skills, students can pursue a wide range of career paths or move into a bachelor's degree program. It can be used to improve their current employment standing or to find entry into careers in social services, government and business.
